Project Description: Young people are increasingly involved in historically adult-dominated policymaking processes at the local, national, and international levels as the world faces challenges such as climate change which spans many generations. Youth climate activists, such as Greta Thunberg, have gained tremendous media platforms and significant political influence in the last five years. Yet, youth climate work at other scales, such as the local scale, is not fully described in existing scholarship. During this project, students will be introduced to qualitative methods such as interviews, fieldwork, and media and archival analysis which we will use to explore youth climate activism and its impacts on the politics of climate change in Pennsylvania.
